China will now control Hong Kong election

China's parliament has approved a controversial proposal that will clear the way for China's control over Hong-Kong's electoral system, thus allowing China to further increase its control over Hong Kong.

On Thursday, the resolution 'On Patriot-ruled Hong Kong' was passed at the National People's Congress.

Under this proposal, the democratic representation will be reduced and the pro-Beijing panel will be allowed to select 'patriotic' candidates.

This proposal was also expected to be passed by the Parliament. 2895 votes were cast in support of this and not a single vote was cast in the protest and this resolution was passed unanimously.
Now the law will be drafted and it can be implemented in Hong Kong within the next few months.

A controversial national security law was passed at last year's NPC session, which effectively undermines Hong-Kong's autonomy and eases the way to punish protesters.

Since the enactment of this law in June last year, dozens of people have been arrested in Hong Kong.
