A recently published book claims that Chhatrapati Shivaji's wife Soyarabai was murdered by her elder son Sambhaji Maharaj.

Girish Kuber, editor of Marathi daily newspaper, has made such a claim in his book 'Renesa State - The Unritual Story of Making of Maharashtra' written in English.
Talking about the history of Maharashtra, he has mentioned what happened after the death of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
He wrote, "At last Sambhaji Maharaj killed Soyarabai and her loyal people so that the dispute related to succession should be put to an end."
"There were some members of Shivaji's Ashta Pradhan Mandal in this. Shivaji's empire was shattered due to this bloodshed. Sambhaji had to pay a heavy price for this."
