Trump furious at Facebook, calling closure of account an 'insult' to millions of Americans

Former US President Donald Trump has criticized the company for suspending his Facebook account for the next two years.

Trump said his Facebook account suspension was an "insult" to the millions of American citizens who voted for him in last year's presidential election.

The former President has described this move of Facebook as a kind of 'censorship'.

Trump's Save America Political Action Committee has issued a statement saying, "Facebook's decision is an insult to the 75 million people who voted for us. They cannot silence us by censoring like this. We will definitely win."

"The next time I stay at the White House, there will be no dinner for Mark Zuckerberg and his wife," the statement read.

Why did Facebook take this decision?

Earlier on Friday, Facebook suspended Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts for two years.

His Facebook and Instagram accounts were banned indefinitely in the month of January this year.
Social media company Facebook accused Trump of instigating a riot in the US Capitol. But there was a meeting of Facebook's monitoring board last month and it criticized the indefinite ban on Trump's account.

After the riots at the US Capitol in January, Trump made several posts that Facebook described as a "serious breach of the rules".
Facebook is also going to end the policy under which politicians were exempted from content monitoring. Now this discount will not be available.

Facebook has said that now even the posts of leaders will not get any security cover. This ban on Trump will be considered from January 7 and will remain till January 7, 2023.

This means that Trump can return to Facebook and Instagram until the next presidential election, to be held in 2024.

Trump's account has been suspended from Twitter forever

Earlier in January this year, Twitter had suspended Trump's account forever.

Twitter said that this was done in view of the possibility of promoting violence.

There was widespread violence in the US this year after the election results and before Biden was sworn in. A group of Trump supporters had entered Capitol Hill and ransacked it.

Donald Trump was constantly alleging that the election results had been tampered with. Not only this, he also described those who entered Capitol Hill as 'patriots'.

Former US President Donald Trump was very active on social media and his followers were also in crores.
